Dear Shawn, A big thank you for today, it was lovely meeting you and this was the best and most informative few hours I have had the pleasure of being a participant in. So much incredibly valuable, smart, useful great information. Looking forward to attending the next clinic.
Diana Dear Shawn,
Thank you for the basics clinic you had today. You are an excellent teacher and so fun to listen to. My sister attended as well but has been getting the various emails from you through me. She asked me to send you her email address so she could be added to your mailing list.
Thanks SO much Shawn….thoroughly enjoyed yesterday!
Marcia
Hi Shawn, Thanks for playing an important role in re-instating physical fitness in my life. With Pickleball out due to covid, I was feeling the physical and emotional fall-out. However along came Nordic pole-walking to the rescue! It is everything that you claim it to be.
After only 2 weeks of pole walking I can now effortlessly push the lawnmower up inclines. I do notice the shift in strength development. Thanks for adjusting my straps at the last clinic; it has made a difference. Thanks too for the link to that amazing Nordic Pole walking book – I happened to have it borrowed from the library – but now I have permanent access to the first part of it.
I look forward to enjoying increased benefits from this new sport and thank you for your encouragement and passion! Thanks, Marcia
Marie: Hey Shawn!
My issues with balance surfaced!!!
Diana: Hello Shawn !
Just a note to let you know how much I enjoyed your clinic last night at Ballantrae. I am one of the 2 who came “ just to see” what nordic pole walking was about… and your enthusiasm and passion ,
I will join you again next week and I will purchase your recommended poles and get started on the path to great posture and health !
Thank you again, have a beautiful day !
Best regards,
Ann: Excellent workshop with lots of helpful information.
Irene: Thanks for the additional information…all very useful in my journey to pole walking. Your enthusiasm is infectious and inspirational and I look forward to another clinic with you. Thanks!
As you know I came almost hobbling to the first Nordic Pole Walking class. I have been amazed at the health improvements I have experienced since starting. I have back, hip and shoulder injuries that often kept me out of the gym or feeling inadequate as I simply could not do what those around me were doing. That has all changed since NPW. I go at my own pace and can see and feel the benefits as my body gets stronger and my endurance increases.
All from walking for about 20 minutes every night using Nordic poles.
I was a little nervous when first using the poles, similar to cross-country ski poles, when walking around his north-end neighbourhood.
I actually walked in the dark the first time so nobody would see me in case people thought I looked funny. (Using the poles with every stride makes it look almost like you’re cross-country skiing on the sidewalk.) I am amazed at how wonderful I feel. Thank-you!
and for us to learn this technique was amazing. I don’t have enough
adjectives to tell you how much I truly relished the experience.
I can’t wait until next Saturday to spend some more time with you and your
team.
Teirrah: I was delighted to meet you today. We moved to Aurora a few years ago. There were a lot of people using poles. I bought some and realize now they are probably Trekking poles. I would ask them about technique..some knew ,some didn’t but many people suggested you and your classes. I investigated but didn’t find the time then and thought that I had missed the opportunity because of Covid.

My First Testimonial in 2009
In September 2009, I read a notice in our local paper offering a free
Nordic Pole Walking Clinic by Shawn Nisbet a highly respected fitness
trainer in town.
I had already started to notice some people walking in nearby
neighbourhood with poles which I thought were cross country ski poles
tweaking my interest.
So I showed up for the clinic. Shawn handed all of us a set of Nordic
Poles to use and proceeded to give us exemplary instructions and
opportunities to learn the proper technique for walking with the poles.
That did it!
I was sold on Nordic Walking!
I started practicing my technique walking around the block on
my own. But by the next week when another clinic was offered I had
already persuaded a friend to join me. This was only the first of
three friends I initiated into the activity as well as my cousin
visiting from Calgary and friends from Boston.
I wanted to be sure I learned not only the walking technique but also
the warm up and cool down exercises. Now I had enough friends to walk
with me whenever I wanted — which was nearly every day.
Being active out in the fresh air is not something I’ve done in a very
long time and I was feeling the benefits. I noticed my face no longer
was pale and washed out but had nice coloring and was
vibrant. My energy level accelerated and I felt the benefit of all the
exercises I learned to go along with the walking. I had lost 60 lbs.
at Weight Watchers six years before but had started to gradually put
back on some of it but once I started the walking the weight
stabilized and my metabolism got a huge boost. I like that I don’t
have to concentrate on both my feet and my hands when I walk. I had
been nervous for a few years because of my age (63) and my fear of
falling and breaking a bone or getting a serious injury but with the
poles I began gaining confidence that they would help prevent me from
falling. Also, I have met and made friends with many, many other
Nordic Walking ladies who walk Tuesdays and Thursdays weekly at a
nearby woods. Just when I thought I was done with
all the sports I had enjoyed but didn’t want to risk an injury by
continuing with them, I discovered a variation to walking that I had
done with my father since I was 2 years old. I find Nordic Walking
to be a great activity for all ages and level of fitness. It has
become a large part of my days and week.
